The History of Sergoit Holding Ground (Kraulen)

  Sergoit Holding Ground, also known as Kraulen, is an area in Moiben, in Uasin Gishu County, Kenya. It was once alienated under the Crown Land Ordinances of 1902 and 1915. This means that the colonial administration took 1,500 acres of Keiyo land in Sergoit and declared it Crown Land. Crown Land was all public lands under the control and direction of His Majesty of England (Crown or Kirauni in Swahili) during the colonial administration. The Colonial Governor would accord leases to white settlers for 99 years and later 999 years. After Kenya gained independence in 1963, Crown Lands were transferred to the new government. The government then converted the parcel of land in Sergoit to a Holding Ground for use by prospective private investors.
