Sergoit County Assembly Ward is located in Moiben constituency, within Uasin Gishu County. With a population of approximately 16,220 people and covering an area of about 172.00 square kilometers, Sergoit is a lively and bustling community.
The Climate: Sergoit enjoys a cool and temperate climate. The region is blessed with fertile soils, making it perfect for growing crops like wheat, barley, maize, beans, and various vegetables. Dairy products such as milk, butter, and cheese are also produced here. However, there are occasional dry spells from December to March, which can affect farming in some parts of Sergoit.
Agriculture: Maize is a significant crop in Sergoit, mainly grown for commercial purposes. Some farmers also grow maize for their own consumption. Mixed farming systems, which involve both crops and livestock, are common in the area. Large farms often intercrop maize with beans, while smaller farms focus on growing pure stands of maize. Dairy farming is also popular, although the output is average. Farmers in Sergoit have formed cooperative societies to help them sell their maize to millers. These societies also provide services like affordable inputs and facilities for drying maize. The marketing of maize involves both formal and informal channels, with Sugutek Cooperative Society and Tugen Estate playing a crucial role in the sector.
Communication and Healthcare: Sergoit faces some communication challenges, but there is good internet connectivity in the area. Health centers like Chepkanga, Chembulet, and Tugen Estate serve the community. The major health challenges include high HIV prevalence, malaria, typhoid, pulmonary diseases, and chronic illnesses like cancer. However, efforts have been made to reduce the infant mortality rate.
Education and Recreation: The education standards in Sergoit are average, with 88% of the population having completed universal primary education. However, secondary school and tertiary enrolment rates remain low. The vocational training center at Chepkanga provides opportunities for young people to learn various trades. When it comes to recreation, Sergoit offers places like Sergoit Golf and Wildlife Resort, Sergoit View Garden Resort, Caesar Waterfront Resort, and other facilities in Marura, Chepkanga, Kaprobu, Chepkoilel, and Chembulet. Notable investments in the area include Jamii Milling Company, Equator Flowers Company, and Emo Foundation farms.
Leadership: Sergoit is fortunate to have an active Member of the County Assembly (MCA) who works hard to bring development to the Ward. The Chief and his Assistant also play important roles in guiding the residents of Sergoit.
